What appeals to me in this photo, also the reason I decided to give it a critique, is the story it portrays. It's not just a "pretty picture" but it tells something real and raw. Most of us have the privilege of having a good health, but that is not how everyone lives. Some people have to go through this every day, suffering and fighting to stay alive. And it is all this that is beautifully captured in this photo. The black and white tones add up to the heavy story it tells, giving it all the more impact. The composition is also well thought out, deciding to take the photo of her in her own (or at least a realistic) environment, makes it easy for us to emphatize. The objects: the scan and the pills, tell her story just as it is. No shine or sugarcoating. Perfect. You did a great job on this
